Hi, welcome again to another room inside your mind
where the curtains are open and flowing
and thoughts are like breaths.
Every new thought the paintings change,
the floor moves and the sounds shift.

In the end you will return to the old room
but it will never be different and never the same...

...for the room is inside your mind
and your mind already IS the room,
in fact you ARE the room
and it only changed because you wanted it to.

Ommm...

DISCUSSION: MEMORY

Years ago I did a fantastic Memory course: Kevin Trudeau's
"Mega Memory", and recently I found his 'Advanced Mega Memory' course
in an Opp Shop! It got me interested in memory again
and so we've been trying a bit of it on during Yoga class.

Most experts in memory - the one's who enter contests and win -
acknowledge that memory is all about the initial programming.
It is necessary to create a secondary reference when hearing some new information,
finding something to associate it with, and then the mind will retain it.

Eg: if I meet someone called Bob, I must immediately think of someone
that I know has this same name, and visualise them. By now, Bob the name
has been referred to my concentration 2 or 3 times, improving the likelihood of retention.

More elaborate structures can of course be built,
all further expanding this initial precept.

One question arose for me:
what about the people who have photographic memories?

I think memory is all to do with Concentration and Attention,
and this is where Yoga/Buddhism join the conversation:
Awareness and Mindfulness are the major focuses of these Ways.

So is it a fascinated person, who notices a lot?
Is it an Anxious person, checking all details for defence?
And why would a mind need to retain so much detail?

Why would one need to remember lots of little details?
Isn't everything from the past automatically subsumed
within our new state, as we move through experience
gathering and noting, feeling and learning?

In some ways I believe memories are all about the past,
which are not particularly relevant any more to the present moment.

Anyone?

REPORT: LANDMARK

Leonie Orton-Staal recently did a Landmark course (these are full-on
personal development courses, mainly focussing on
behaviour and linguistics (communication in relationships).

Here is her description of her experience:

"I recently did the Landmark Forum. I’ve known about it for
about 10 years and have periodically had friends who have done the course
and recommended that I do it. I was very cynical about it and probably
felt a bit offended that a friend would recommend that I do it.
What must they think of me? Is there something wrong with me?
Well finally I thought what the hell, I might as well give it a go.

It was a really amazing experience. It has opened my eyes to so much
about myself and the world that I didn’t understand beforehand.
It’s given me a new understanding of Yoga from moment to moment
instead of just going to a class every now and then to do some stretching.
It has allowed me to be mindful of what’s going on in the moment,
what reactions I’m having to a situation, what interpretations I put on things,
that previously I thought were fixed.

In a nutshell, I’ve realised that I can stop being angry at others for what
they did or didn’t do or say or think. I can be 100% responsible for my actions
and my world and therefore my freedom. So far it has really transformed
my relationship with my parents. Suddenly conversations that I thought
I couldn’t have became easy and grudges kept just seemed to go to water.
It gives such an incredible amount of freedom to be given a
good understanding and belief in any possibility.

I now realise that all the friends that have recommended that I
do the Landmark Forum haven’t suggested it because they thought
something was wrong with me, they suggested it because they cared
about me and wanted the very best for me.

ASTROLOGY

On Friday 19th Feb at 5.37am
we will move into the stage of  Pisces.
"The Born Mystics, whose role is to keep faith with the voice within,
showing us higher values to live by than worldly gain".

Often very creative types, a bit up in the air,
really worth chatting with if on subjects they are engaged in,
(otherwise don't bother!). Soulful, emotive, honest.

Pisces is the oldest of the Zodiac, at the End of the Cycle.
Ready for the final spiritual Freedom, or perhaps re-birth.

Listen to a Pisces speaking on large things.

2009 Astrological Calendar + Moon Planting Guide,

HEALTH REPORT
from Doctor Qu'ac

FOOD HORMONES?

Last month I ate some chicken. I'd not eaten any land-animal meats for 6-8mths,
and for some reason decided to try some again, to see what happened.
I was interested to observe how my body would respond,
and whether I'd just made up a whole lot of rubbish about meat.

Certainly within an hour my stomach felt a little Not Quite Right,
but nothing worth worrying about. I went to bed thinking maybe all was well.

That night I woke up a couple times, and the obvious factor
was that my body was overheating. I had started to develop a minor fever.
I still think that was a reasonable response, given my digestion system
was always going to have to work harder digesting, creating more heat.

The next morning, I still had slight fever effects, as well as a certain queasiness
in my stomach. But a mildly alarming thing was that my brain felt 'stressed',
like it was being crunched. I have a very good sensory awareness of my body,
of my nervous and cardiac systems, and it really felt to me
that both these systems were stressed as well.

The question was, then: is the problem the chicken/meat,
or is it the hormones in the chicken (it wasn't organic or bio-dynamic)?

I tend to think the problem was the hormones. My body felt as though
it was dealing with substances akin to poison.

It made things simple. I won't be going back to eating meat.

Note: The simple Yogic counter measures were:
gentle repetetive digestive/abdominal twists;
sun salutes to pump the blood-lanes and help clean/clear the organs;
headstand, to flush out the brain;
then square breathing, to purify the blood.
Then rest, of course.

GARDENING/HORTICULTURE

PERMACULTURE

Permaculture is an approach to designing agricultural systems
to have the diversity, stability, and resilience of natural ecosystems.
The philosophy behind permaculture is one of working with, rather than against, nature.
It's about finding creative solutions to living a more sustainable life by growing local organic food,
reducing energy consumption, recycling our wastes and creating habitat for other life around us.
Based on a philosophy of think globally, act locally;
Permaculture is equally as relevant to an inner city courtyard as it is to a broad acre farm.

Some simple ways to achieve this in our home gardens include:

 ·        Recycling of nutrients and energy in nature is a function of many species. In our gardens, it is our own responsibility to return wastes (via compost or mulch) to the soil and plants.

 ·        Crop rotation is system of growing different vegetable crops on the same plot in consecutive years. This can be used to improve soil fertility and to reduce disease and pest problems which cannot establish due to the constant movement of the beds.

 ·        Chickens are the perfect animal for a backyard permaculture garden. They convert food scraps to eggs, clean up weeds and fallen fruit, and of course are a great source of manure.

 ·        Irrigate using greywater through a drip irrigation system that will irrigate selected parts of the garden as efficiently as possible.

 ·        Encourage biodiversity in your garden. Insects which are pests to one plant are often predators of other insect pests.
