Hi everyone,
have a big Sigh before continuing!

STIMULANTS

It's an interesting discussion
about how the government bans certain drugs
and not others.
Caffeine, Alcohol, and Tobacco
are considered okay, it seems.

In my opinion,
caffeine is one of the most violent drugs available
and it is worthwhile understanding that
its impact upon the nervous system
is so incredibly extreme that there are
great similarities to Ecstacy and Acid.
It is a turbo-charged excitement machine
that inevitably will have a come-down.
People who 'need' a coffee are experiencing that come-down.

My understanding has it that a person with Anxiety
will never lose this as long as they keep having coffee.
Depression might be in a similar boat.

Taking this to its logical next step,
a relationship with someone who has coffee every day
will be compromised by the emotional/psychological
imbalance that must, by this nature, be there.
Highs and lows create mood swings,
energy surges and drops,
and actions and reactions are at the mercy of a drug!

An example (I wouldn't have coffee):
I recently bought a block of chocolate,
something I hadn't done for months.
Over the next 3 glorious days
I realised that I had
clearly become more
irritable, quicker to anger, and also slightly anxious.
Only by degrees, yet still there.
So I am less attracted to chocolate now.
(Funny, once addicted to coffee,
some people get irritable if they don't have it!)

But I know people Love coffee. (Tea too).
They just may not be noticing the impact
it has upon their lives.
That's the essence of Yoga - Awareness.

Sad, but true!!

ARTICLE:
The Construction of Biomedicine Knowledge
by Adam Reilly.

This is a great article - scientific in its information,
and balanced in its perspective. It talks about
the 'messy nature of Biomedicine research'
from the background of a Scientist.

DOCTOR QU'AC SPEAKS:
about Injuries and Yoga.

When a person starts doing Yoga more
regularly than ever before,
at some point - whether after the first class
or the hundredth, injuries will pop up.

(This discussion is based upon the presumption
that people are wisely doing a non-forced Yoga).

It is a good idea to understand Yoga
as a therapeutic practice, and if the body
has deep residual tension, the Yoga practices
will inevitably find it.
People get so used to their bodies being tight
that they no longer notice it.
A body will protect its weak spots
and tighten around them, to disallow movement.
Yoga is designed to go in, coax tension out,
and ultimately free up the whole body.

A tight body has memory and familiarity
as its reasons to continue with tension.
(So does the mind).

Also, old injuries that were never truly corrected
will eventually come back. The Yoga process
will find them, and start unlocking them properly.

Trust is a big key with Yoga - and Life.

All of the above applies to illness as well.

NUTRITION: with Jodi Phillips

Market watch: Broad beans or Fava beans are coming
into season and make a great nutritious addition to many dishes.
They are a good source of fibre, protein and Vitamins A and C
and they also contain potassium and iron.

Broad beans are great fresh from the garden and fun
and relatively easy to grow at home.
To cook them you will need to remove two outer pods
and boil in hot water for about five minutes.
Frozen broad beans are also a great choice.
Broad beans are great in simple pasta using fresh ingredients,
a risotto or they make a great dip or addition to a salad.
Try rocket, red onion, broad beans, pear and walnut
with your favorite dressing and fresh herbs.
I like sage with this combination lightly pan fried so it is crunchy.

This month’s question:

Can you please tell me about foods that can help
hypothyroidism and foods which should be avoided?

ARTICLE: ON CONSCIOUSNESS

"Jnana Yoga Today" by Nic Morrey.

Siddhartha Buddha had 84,000 different teachings
mapped out for the many different presentations
and levels of dormant or emerging consciousness.
When we think of our own tendencies and bias
toward certain techniques, methods,
theories and answers to life's equasion,
it can be of somewhat relief to be introduced
to Jnana Yoga, Vedantic self-enquiry.

That is, within the intellectual pursuit of knowledge,
every 'school of thought' has a particular angle
or aspect of 'truth'.  In disregarding another perspective,
there is a tendency to throw out the gems with the rubble.  Whether it's a preference of religious practice,
a yoga technique, guru or philosophical stance,
what hinders our development is our 'own' preception,
seen through one's own unpolished/unconscious internal mirror.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

After more than a year teaching the regular
Tuesday night Class (7.30pm),
Sonia will no longer be doing this,
and Toby will be taking over this session.

Apologies to those who have enjoyed her classes
and learned to rely on her being there.

I would like everyone to know how much
I appreciated what she created at Land of Yoga,
a knowledgeable teacher who taught lovely
meditative classes - with a feminine touch.

As a small business owner, it was such a joy
to have a reliable teacher who could be trusted.

Sonia will still be around,
and if anyone would like to be notified
of when she may start a regular class
somewhere in Melbourne,
please email her at:
oceanmantra@optusnet.com.au
